Daniel A. Reed, a native of Baton Rouge, has been practicing with Seale Smith since 1983, engaging in a general defense litigation practice, initially concentrating in the defense of claims of medical negligence for physicians, hospitals, nursing homes and other health care providers. This defense work provided much trial and civil procedure experience and led to the defense of other serious property and casualty claims where medical issues are important. Dan has also defended other professionals, including real estate agents and attorneys. Throughout his years of practice, Dan has maintained an interest in varied areas of the law. He is a licensed title agent and his practice currently includes concentration in the area of real estate litigation. Mr. Reed has been a partner with the firm since 1986 and serves on its management committee. He is also active in his church and community.
Mr. Reed is a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louisiana Land Title Association, Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, Louisiana Society of Hospital Attorneys, and has been a licensed title insurance agent since 1985. He is an Assistant Examiner in the area of succession law for the Committee on Bar Admissions of Supreme Court of Louisiana. He has frequently authored course materials and presented at seminars on various trial practice topics.
Mr. Reed has also been active in the community, serving as a member and later President of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Board and as a board member and President of Volunteers in Public Schools. He is a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, where he has served in various leadership positions, including Chairman of its Administrative Board. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and is general counsel for the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana. In 2010, he was selected as a Volunteer Activist for the Baton Rouge community by the Baton Rouge Area Speech and Hearing Foundation.
